A food marketplace app for traders

Food Bazar runs a B2B2C food marketplace that connects restaurants, traders and customers in Nepal. We develop and support its mobile app and website, which give each group its own login and tools.

  • Application development
  • Four user roles

The client

Food Bazar Group Pvt. Ltd. is a Kathmandu company behind Foodbazar, a marketplace that puts wholesale and retail food trade on one platform. Restaurants buy ingredients in bulk from traders, traders sell to both restaurants and the public, and customers order from either.

On its about page, the company describes the gap it set out to close: restaurants juggling several suppliers, traders with no digital view of demand, and no single platform joining up B2B and B2C food orders.

What they needed

A marketplace with this many sides lives or dies on roles. The platform needed separate, permissioned spaces for marketplace admins, restaurant owners, traders and customers, each seeing only their own data and workflows.

It also needed the dull parts handled properly: VAT, KYC checks on sellers, invoices and settlement statements, plus local payment gateways and wallets. And it had to stay fast and dependable once real orders were flowing, which is where ongoing support comes in.

What we built

We develop the Foodbazar application and support its mobile app and website. The features below are the ones the platform's own site describes.

Role-based access

Admins, restaurants, traders and customers get their own secure logins, permissions and workflows on a multi-tenant setup.

Restaurant dashboard

Menus with variants and options, inventory linked to menu items, time-slot pricing, live out-of-stock controls, orders and payouts.

Trader catalogues

Catalogues with pack sizes, tiered bulk pricing by quantity, stock and expiry tracking for perishables, and automatic delivery notes and invoices.

Customer ordering

A mobile app with phone OTP or email sign-up, a feed of restaurants and traders, local payment methods and delivery tracking.

Analytics and reporting

Revenue, order trends, top items, inventory turnover and repeat buyers, with settlement statements and monthly P&L reports for sellers.

Compliance built in

VAT handling, KYC document checks before a seller goes live, invoicing and digital audit logs.

How we worked

This is how we run application projects of this kind.

  1. Map the users and the flows

We list every role that touches the product and write down what each one needs to do, start to finish.

  2. Scope a first release

The flows that prove the model go into the first release. The rest goes on a written backlog, not into the first build.

  3. Build in short iterations

Working screens are demoed regularly, so the client reviews real software rather than documents.

  4. Test with real data paths

Forms, uploads, notifications and hand-offs to third parties are tested end to end before anyone outside the team sees them.

  5. Support after launch

We stay on to fix issues, keep dependencies current and add features from the backlog.
